We have mosquitoes.
They are everywhere.
We can't seem to figure out how you don't get bitten by these ridiculously annoying animals.
We've tried bug repellent. The spray kind, the gel kind and anything we can find in between. If there are any wonderful 'home remedies' out there, please let us know!
We have mosquito repellent electric things plugged into almost every electric socket in our house.
Our kids have so many mosquito bites, it's just not good.
My feet and ankles are COVERED with them. It is actually keeping me up at night!
No one here uses mosquito nets, but we may be the first.
All of us have had no problem learning how to say 'mosquito' in our new language ... we say it so much we have plenty of practice!
It gets dark here by 5pm. I am to the point that I have said none of us are going out after dark because the mosquitoes are so bad. So that basically cuts our day in half! It's just not worth it.
Then, we have been told of a girl we know, here in our area, that has been infected through a mosquito bite with Cerebral Malaria. This is serious!
Please lift us up that we figure something out to prevent us from getting bitten so much and that we are all protected from any serious illnesses. By faith we believe that these little creatures will stay away from us ...

Hi
We will be praying. I was looking online and I read on an Indian site about Mosquito cois and vaporizing mats???? Is there water anywhere around you that you could treat with insecticide (sp?)

Hey Aim -
Egads. We had the same very annoying and painful problem when we lived in Guatemala.
I, for one, don't think those plug-in things do any good....
I KNOW it's hot there...but I would double up on socks and make sure light long sleeves and long pants were on if you venture out after dark...
Also, is this 'seasonal'? WIll it get better??
I'm going to post your question on the SL int'l area...see what they say....
I yarped for ya last night...
adios...

Mosquito netting sounds like a real possibility!!!
I was looking in a Nutritional Healing book for information for treating or preventing mosquito bites. Here's what I found. It suggested several things: Eat foods rich in vitamin B1 (thiamine) such as brown rice, fish, wheat germ, or as an alternative take thiamine supplements. Also suggests avoiding all refined sugar which gives off a sweet smell that attracts mosquitoes. Also suggests you can apply citrus juice (lemons?) to exposed skin to repel mosquitoes. Another idea is to rub garlic on the skin. ( I wonder if taking garlic supplements might help.)
Treatment ideas are to take vitamin C,and after washing with soap & water, apply a paste of baking soda and water. Also suggests rubbing a cut onion on the bite to provide a powerful antioxidant treatment. It also suggests wearing long sleeves and pants and cautions to only spray CLOTHES with DEET spray...not directly on the skin. There is actually an invention of a painless vacuum pump called Lil Sucker from Terra Tech used to extract poison from insect bites. I don't know where you might find such a thing or even if it's available there.
Our prayers are with you for relief and protection from mosquitoes!
from Back Home in Indiana
That is insane.
Do you remember the mosquitoes in Arkansas on the way to Texas? How they invaded our van and the boys had to have a mosquito massacre. Then, when it was light out the inside of the van was covered in little rad splatters...and the gas pumps at the gas stations were completely covered! Those were the worst mosquitoes I have ever seen. I would not want to live with that. I will be praying that you find an effective solution to the problem. I think I would consider pesticides or whatever and just fog the city. Of course, you probably don't want to create any issues, so maybe you can fog your house...do they have the yard guard spray there? You could evacuate for a few hours and spray that every where. Just a thought. Will be praying for you. By the way, hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Do you have any special plans? What kind of meal will you be eating?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA YES we do remember that ... it was crazy! I have to say that they aren't that bad here, thank goodness! I called that place our Samaria ... we will always go around it, never through it again! That was a crazy night of traveling, wasn't it? Good times!
We are going to get together with some other American families here. One family we know pretty well, the other 2 families we don't hardly know at all, so it will be interesting! We were able to get a 2.5kg turkey, it had to be ordered... they aren't just readily available around here. It's just over 5lbs, so for 20 people it will just be a little bit of turkey, but better than nothing! I am making a big portion of mashed potatoes and I actually found sweet potatoes too ... but no marshmallows! ugh ... so the sweet potato casserole will not be quite right, but again, better than nothing! Hope you have a safe trip back and a great day too!
Hey Hillary! We got your comment and apple cider vinegar trick for mosquitoes ... I just couldn't post it b/c it had one of our names in it! So sorry! I just wanted to let you know that we did get it and thanks a ton ... we need all the help we can get with this. Blessings!
look on the website: www.bulkherbstore.com and look up the Vinegar of four thieves...i know sounds crazy, but they say it works, read the article & see what you think...
