It's been great week!
First we have continued to make progress in language learning. This is so incredible to us! On top of that, we have found 2 really great language tutors for our kids, so now it can be more of a whole family process of learning this language together. They were learning 'with' us in the beginning, but that soon didn't work out too well. And then through a lot of asking and trying, we were able to find both of them someone that teaches at their level. Our oldest can even write their name in this new language, after only a few weeks of tutoring! PTL!
Yesterday, we met some new friends that are working with another charity here. We went to lunch and then had them over to our house. They went out on a walk in the village with us. It was so incredibly humid ... it's not as burning hot as it was a few weeks ago, now the humidity is rising every day it seems. But, nonetheless, we walked and walked and walked! We stopped and talked to many people along the way, realizing at times how much more we have to learn of this language and at other times surprising ourselves that we could actually understand and carry on some conversations!
Our oldest somehow ended up in the path of one of the scores of bicycles on the road and got hit in the back of the leg, but everything is ok. Scared me (Mom!) at first, but no harm done, thank goodness. It could have been so much worse ... the guy riding the bike didn't even fall off or anything either. We were very thankful no one was hurt.
Then this morning, Monday, our doorbell rang early. A friend of ours came to invite us to his sister's wedding. We are thrilled! First of all, this is will be the second time that we will be able to engage this Islamic family personally. A few weeks ago, this same friend's wife passed away and he invited us to the family gathering they had after the week of mourning. It was incredible to be there and be the only 'foreigners' anywhere around. What a perspective that gave us.
Now, we will have another opportunity, next week, to dive a little deeper into their family and culture. Please lift us up as we determine the best ways and things to say to engage this family. We know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the timing of us being here now and this family (out of the millions that are here) being connected to us is not anything but God's perfect timing.
It's a little intimidating to think about going to an event like this where we will only know a few people and really have no idea what to expect. We do know, though, that is a tremendous honor to be invited and we want to make the most of this opportunity to continue to build a bridge with this family to share the Light of Life!
Also, we sent out our most recent newsletter in the mail last week. If you did not get one and you would like too, just send your address to reachtoindia@yahoo.com and we will add you to our mailing list.
May the power of Jesus be evident in your life today!
