Game Time & lots of celebrating

Ok, so now it is game time. And yes there are prizes! Is it ever really a game without a prize? I don't think so.

Here is a picture of a food we were given to eat ... look at it and post your comments with what you think this food is. After everyone has had a chance to post their guess, I will reveal it and you can gag! HA HA

Every meal is an adventure! It would be nice to have some more familiar things available, but it is fun to 'branch out' and try new things ... except you might walk away still hungry! Most things, though, have been really good. We just get that occasional serving of something that doesn't look (or taste) like anything we expected. It's really funny to see everyone's reactions when a plate is coming our way that we know is probably ours, but we don't recognize anything on it!

On another note, today is a major holiday here in two ways. It is Eid, the end of Ramadan, for the Muslim community and it is Gandhi's birthday for the Hindu's and anyone else who wants to celebrate. These two major days just happen to fall on the same day this year, it's not always like that. So it's basically like Christmas Day for most people here. Lots of celebrating in the streets and lots of prayers and sacrifices in the mosques or at their homes. It's a little uneasy to go out today, just because anything is possible. There are lots of sacrifices being made and many times they are going on in open places where we could see it all ... which is interesting, but not a pretty sight.

Once we have established relationships, we can use these times to build bridges and connect with them. It's not that we would celebrate like they do, but we can bring them a cake or something for them to break their fast (which is what happens during Ramadan) just as a sign of friendliness and respect.

These are things that we are learning to use as open doors to connect and relate to those that we have been sent here for. We can't just dismiss everything that they do all together, we have to find some part of it that relates to us and build from there. We want to be intentional about using these opportunities and being good stewards of the open doors that are the result.

Now ... don't forget to post your guess about the mystery food!
