Well this week has been an interesting week to say the least.
First, one funny story.
Today, I was in the car with our language teacher going to our class (I pick her up half way since it's so hot and quite a ways from her house). We are stopped in traffic (shocker) and I look over and on the side of the street there are several roosters. This is something that is common, but not usually in the area that we are in.
Now mind you, we are in the city. This is not a rural area where I am seeing the roosters along the side of the road ... it's right among a million things happening.
I point them out to my teacher, and say something like, 'how cute' or something like that.
Then to my astonishment, my teacher starts talking about why those 'chickens' are better meat than any other chicken meat. How it's the best and 'natural.'
gag!!!!!
They are alive, breathing animals and she doesn't see anything except MEAT. hahahahaha!!!! I just kinda smiled and said, 'oh I didn't know that.'
Thankfully we were almost there and I got out of the car quickly because I didn't want to hear any more about that. ;-)
Then later today we had an appointment at a new language school that just started a few months ago. We just found out about it this past week.
We met with the director, who is from Argentina. She is extremely nice and actually has her degree in teaching 2nd languages! woo hoo!!!!
I had to laugh, though, because she was kinda testing us and talking to us in the language we are learning in order to figure out if we should be placed in the beginner or intermediate class since we have been learning with a tutor, but again, she is from Argentina. So, there we are, trying hard to understand this new language from someone with a hispanic accent. HELP!!!! We did good though!
We start these new classes at the language school this Monday. We will go there Monday and Wednesday mornings. We are also going to keep working with our tutors the other mornings, hopefully learn that much faster! It will be a new experience being in a classroom setting, but we are looking forward to it.
We are also looking at the different ways to engage the village that is near our home more aggressively. One option that keeps 'coming up' is teaching English. We found a school here that we can take a 4 week course to learn how to teach English as a 2nd language and receive a certification. We have been talking and praying about this and then when we were at the post office yesterday, a man that works there asked us to teach him English. We've been there several times, and no one has ever said that to us. But THAT day, as we are discerning what God has for us to do, we are asked about the very thing that we are considering. Not a coincidence. We don't feel that is our 'answer' either, but just interesting how we keep having that put in front of us! God is working on something, that's for sure!
This week has been tiring with many good things, although we won't look at roosters the same ever again! We pray as God works through us that He uses us up totally and completely!!!
