ahhhhh... our internet is working again. All the sudden my husband heard that Skype 'ding' and quickly checked our connection ... sure enough! We were connected again.
So funny though, because last Wednesday I called and talked to two people about the problem. They both ended up hanging up before I could really even explain what the problem was. I think they just didn't have the patience (or care) to piece together my broken language!!!
Then Thursday I just knew that my patience was gone. So I didn't call or talk to anyone about it. I was kicking myself in the back of my mind, though, because I thought that we would be another week or so without internet again if I didn't stay with it.
Then Friday, it gets fixed.
I had myself convinced Thursday night that I had blown it by not following up. Well, that just shows what our own thinking does! I'm glad that I didn't call Thursday ... knowing my patience had been used up!!! Sometimes we have to know when to go and know when to stop.
So there's a great thing that happened this week.
Another interesting happening is that a guy that my husband has befriended here in our complex has come over that last 2 Saturday nights (unannounced, which is what happens here) and the conversations have led to 'religious' topics. He is Hindu. Next month there is a huge Hindu festival called Durga Puja (I blogged a lot about this last year). He is explaining a lot of the rituals and why things are done. It is very interesting. But at the same time, my husband is finding many open doors to talk about our 'religion' as well. We are praying that our Saturday night neighbor keeps coming!
Our language study is still the main focus currently. It is so amazing to think that we have been studying for 9 months now and been here for almost a year already. We know that this is just a first step to all that He wants us to do!
I know when I was told that the first year 'all' we would do is language, I thought, "ok, well that'll just be part of it." haha was I wrong!!! Whoever told me that had obviously taken on learning a language full time and knew that had to be the only focus. Learning this language has really consumed our lives!
... we were were playing Phase 10 the other night and found ourselves saying the numbers and colors in the language we are learning.
... our kids nicknames for each other are now in this other language.
... when we are driving, we are all looking at the billboards and signs to see if we can read them.
... the kids never have to guess that Mom and Dad are "in language."
... every time I say an English sentence, I think, "could I say that in _____?"
... as I am homeschooling one of my kids in math, he is counting in the language we are learning but then writing the numbers in English.
That's just a few examples of how it becomes a part of everything we do!
It really reminds me how in the same way, He should be a bigger part of ALL that we do! We should be thinking and talking about things He has done all the time in every circumstance. I pray you see His promises being fulfilled even right now!!!

PTL you're back! Missed you guys while your internet was down. It is amazing how language learning is such an in-depth thing. God bless ya for your perseverance in it!
I am so happy for you all. I can't believe it's been a year ????? I'm learning to speak Spanish and I soooo admire what you are learning. You are a great example in so many ways. How is homeschooling going anyway? Reading anything interesting??
