Protection and People

Well, we had our first very scary moment. I still shake thinking about it.

We went to go to the store which is just a couple blocks down the street from us where we are staying right now. The problem is that we had to cross a street to get there, a busy street. I will try to get a picture of it so you can comprehend what I mean when I say busy ... it is busy.

We stood on the side of the road for several minutes while we discussed the best options for getting across it. We watched the flow of traffic, that should be 4 lanes, but is was about 12 lanes. There are motorcycles, buses, auto rickshaws, cars, etc.... flying everywhere.

We decided that we would carry our youngest and I would hold our oldests hand as we crossed. We started out and my dh and youngest made it across, but me and our oldest had to hesitate for a motorcycle. The motorcycle passed and our oldest took off ... and didn't see another motorcycle coming. I stood there screaming ... he started to stop then took a step and then thankfully stopped again as the motorcycle FLEW passed him with not even an inch to spare. He threw his hands above his head to avoid hitting him. It made my heart stop.

I ran up to him and grabbed him and we got to the other side of the street. My dh saw it all happen too. We were all shaking, but praising God for His protection. There was a mighty warrior angels wing that came between him and the motorcycle.

So, needless to say, thank you for continuing to lift us up. I've said it before, but it's the only way I can think to say it ... that means more to us than anything. In those moments when we actually realize that we have evaded disaster that we can see the hand of God, but we know that there are many other moments that we just didn't get close enough to see it and feel it like we did that time.

There's an old Amy Grant song (not necessarily an Amy Grant fan now, but this was the old 'good stuff') that had a line in it that said, "a drunk driver ran off the road before it came my way" we know that there have probably been countless times danger has been avoided and we had no idea. That's our God. That's how much He cares about us and how awesome He is.

It's just a little overwhelming when we experience it and see His protection in action and know that we aren't deserving of any of it. Amazing, amazing grace!!

Another topic ....

We went to a fellowship the other day that was standing room only and had 7 different meeting times just like it. As we were standing outside waiting to get in, there are many asking for money and things because they know that in most beliefs people are given 'points' for giving to the poor. Well, we don't work on a 'point' system, but it sure is hard to pass up a little girl holding a baby asking for food. Here is a picture of one of the little girls that came up to us:

So, what do you do? How about our answer, slip her a few rupees as we are walking in ... that way there wasn't time for others to find out we gave her something and then come and aggressively 'go after' us for themselves. So that's what we did. That baby may not even be her brother or sister, but we aren't to judge. Another good way to help that we have figured out is to go and buy a bunch of bananas (they are available everywhere here along the street) and pass them out when someone asks from us. We are slowly but surely learning how to handle these issues in ways that 'fit' us.

Maybe you have heard in the news about the flooding up in the Bihar region of India? That's in the northeast and it has devasted that part and will more than likely flood Bangladesh too.

The fellowship that we were at took in things to send to Bihar. Here is a picture of the truck that they are filling up today to send there:

It really impressed us that people here with nothing, when you compared to most
'standards', are giving to send things to other people that are in even more need. They filled this truck to overflowing and still have more to send that's in their lobby. How great!

So as we continue on this adventure we are sharing His Light with everyone that we come in contact with in every way that we can. It is a daunting task, but we are grateful to be here to do our part!

Hi Family,
We are always happy to hear from you. The experience crossing the street sounds VERY scary. Thankful for God's protection! The picture of the child with the baby is very compelling. Sounds like you did the right thing. We'd love to talk again sometime and hear more. We are fine. The weather is feeling more like fall. This weekend is the garage sale and fall festival-Back to the Fifties. We are finally getting some rain after a dry spell...and the grass keeps growing. Yesterday was mowing day. We think it would be fun to Skype using the youth center high speed internet and the office computer...What time would be good for that??? The last reply I sent to your "travels" email came back to me and said undeliverable. That was frustrating. Just know we are always thinking of you and holding you up. Thankful especially today for His protection!

That is so frightening. It made me think of those four lane roads in Orlando that they expect you to cross to get to anything. No Thanks

Are there others crossing the road as well? How do they do it? I'm assuming to vehicle then? Is that even possible?

His eye is always on the sparrow. So hug your little sparrow for us.

I check this blog on a regular basis and your entrees are most interesting. Every time they are read-something is learned about your type of surroundings .
Now I can picture this scene where you guys are crossing the street. A learning experience there again. His protection again when as needed.
Hope to get pics of your new place you call home.

Yes, he was very scared when we had to cross the street again to get back. It was a lot 'easier' the second time ... we just were able to find a split second where the street was more empty and go for it!

Thank you all for your comments! It is so nice to talk!
