Special Day ...

Today was a very special day for a couple reasons.

First, but not the most important, was that we actually felt cool air coming from our a/c's at our new place!

They.Work. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thrilling!!!

They were actually installed completely last night (plugs on the end of the cords and everything ... imagine that!) but then the electricity went out (for everyone, which happens daily usually at some point) and so we couldn't turn them on!

God definitely has a sense of humor. I think He was really trying to see how much patience we really have by having the electricity go out right when we are able to turn them on! HA HA HA HA Like I said before, all we can do is laugh.

This morning we were able to go to a very special fellowship. It's such a privilege to get to do this!

We didn't understand anything they said, we couldn't communicate at all, we sat on hard concrete floors, it was humid and hot ... but we loved every minute of it!!!!

Here is a picture of some of the children:

How can that not just take your heart? They had all come, most of them on their own, to attend the fellowship. What potential!!!! Makes me really mad when these kids walk from far and wide to come and they soak in every word, and then my kids can hardly sit still. I shouldn't compare, but that is very frustrating!!!

This is of a man we met there. He had previously rented a rickshaw to drive in order to work and make some money to support his family. After many believing for him, and a lot of sacrifice on his part, he was able to purchase this rickshaw and be his own boss! This is a big deal here, so many are employed by others that treat them in very harsh and demanding ways. By this happening for this man, many in the fellowship saw for the first time what faithful belief can do. This greatly encouraged everyone!

I love the pink and blue horn on the front ... doesn't that just set it off? ;-) He was so proud that he was able to drive his wife and little baby this morning. If he was still renting he would have had to be out working and would not have been able to come and his wife would have had to walk a very long distance by herself with their baby. We are so happy for them!

Here is a picture of the entrance where we went in:

You can be sure that that's not all just water either ... really ... !!!

Before you walk in a home or other similar places, you always take off your shoes. Everyone knows how dirty and nasty any ground surface is here, so they are very careful not to track it into where they live. Also, if you step on someone's foot by accident or whatever, that can be very offensive. You must stop and touch your hand to your mouth and then to your heart in apology. They just don't mess around with feet and shoes here, they are not clean and everyone knows it! HA Here's the picture of all the shoes outside the front door of the fellowship, for some reason this just made me laugh:

We are so glad to get to be a part of these fellowships. As we continue to learn the language and culture we will be partnering with them to do many things! These kinds of places are where we will find so much help learning. They all want to help us and are so generous to us. When they saw that we came, the leader sent someone out to purchase the most expensive sweet (dessert) in the market. Then afterwards, they had us come into a side room and served us and they ate nothing. I could hardly choke it down. Not because of the taste, but because they seemingly have nothing (by material standards, not spiritual!) but still show such overwhelming generosity.

It's a lesson to learn. I walked out of there very humbled ...

Oh Aim!

What lessons we will all learn from your experiences...

This fellowship can challenge me to be more faithful, generous, and more attentive!

GREAT PIX!

WOW That is so true. We are so concerned here in the States about "getting ours" that we truly have forgotten the gift of selflessly serving others. I had a lump in my throat just thinking about how you probably felt. What a generous people. Question: I wonder if they do this out of custom in order not to offend or if it is naturally an outpouring of their spirits. Have you seen both?

Dawna,
This is a part of the culture to some degree. Hospitality is a big thing here, in a very good way. But, the generosity really comes in by getting that sweet dessert for us. They could have simply served us bananas or some tea ... but no, they went and spent their own money and wanted us to have it. That's their heart, it's really unbelievable. That type of love just isn't seen often enough.
