We just had someone bring us a Flip video camera from the States ... wow this thing is awesome! We hope to be able to bring you a little more video from our side of the world since we have this now.
Today, on my way to get some groceries, I recorded a little bit of our journey to get there. Obviously we are so thankful to be able to borrow a STL vehicle right now ... we are really hoping that the funds come through for our own vehicle by the time we have to return this one! He is always faithful to supply what we truly need ... so it's up to Him! Actually we enjoy using the public transportation, the auto rickshaws, the subway (thanks to our angel) and cabs. But picture riding in an auto rickshaw with just a couple bags of groceries ... it's not easy!!! I've done it, I know. So having a car does help immensely. Not to mention the safety factor!
One thing you'll notice in this video is a lot of the cars and trucks starting their engines. They think that if you stop even for just a minute you should turn your engine off to save gas! So all the time the traffic is stopped and then when it can move, there's a delay because everyone is starting the cars/trucks back up again! Trying to explain that it actually uses more gas, is pointless ... so it's just part of life. They also don't use their headlights at night (or any other time) for the same reason ... it wastes gas! hahahaha I can kinda understand the turning the engine off rationale, but headlights? They will flash them at you to tell you that they are coming through, but they don't just keep them on. In general that is, the majority don't use them but you'll see some that do at times.
Here's a little idea of what a drive to the store looks like here:

My goodness. It really is sooo crowded. Do you feel like you are inhaling products into your lungs that really shouldn't be there? I felt like it was a scratch and sniff video just watching it. It was a little surreal watching it and then hearing your music playing from the website. There seemed to be somewhere to look for the "SEND MONEY NOW" I heard a couple of Sr. Citizens at breakfast the other morning talking about a recession here. They were all laughing saying that we think a recession or depression is when we can't afford a cell phone. Boy watching this brings that even more to home.
I was thinking, if the oven is small, how do you wash your clothes? I can't wait to see what that looks like. Give us the laundry story.
What did you get for Christmas in your boxes ??
Hugs to you all and thanks for sharing the footage. Praying you can have your own vehicle.
The Sandalas
That reminds me SO MUCH of being there!!!!!!!
And...I can't believe you do that EVERYDAY?!!!! phew.
My 9 yr old said, after watching the vidoe, that it reminded him of "The Amazing Race"!!!
Proud of you all!
your Greenwood fan club
We feel like we are on the Amazing Race at times ... just the every day version! I thought that might bring back some memories Andrea. ;-)
Ummm yeah, Dawna, that "send money now" button should be there ... good idea! Those Sr. citizens had a great observation. And yes, what we inhale everyday is not good, you can see the smog.
I will bring you the laundry story ... it's actually quite a pleasant surprise.
We got homemade cookies, a pink Peyton Manning jersey (!!!!), mac n cheese, spaghettio O's, some Christmas deco, etc.. etc.. great stuff!!!
Oh and my dh explained that they keep the lights off NOT b/c they think they will waste gas but b/c they think they will wear down the battery ... ok, so maybe a little more logical but still wrong! ;-)
I don't know how you get around in that crowded place. Just watching the video makes me nervous. I'm surprised there aren't more wrecks, and people getting run over. I know it isn't faith, but I think my costaphobia(I don't know how to spell it) would kick in over there. You truly have to be called by God to go and do what you guys are doing. Like your mother always says,"But God". He gives us more grace, and a peace that we can't explain.
Have a good weekend.
Love you,
Darlene
WOW--do you take tylenol or advil or something before you go out? The noise would give me a headache! LOL to the turning off the engines. That one truck sounded like it wasn't going to start! Goodness! Thank you for letting us see how it looks! Much love!
I woke up way too early this morning, but I'm glad to beable to catch up on my blog friends.
I'm happy that you have an oven, and the video camera to give a better feel of how your world is.
I LOVED the ending to the 'story' about the trip your dh took.
I'm gald to have checked in, but you should know I think of you more often than I can keep up with blogging!
Lisa
...and I STILL can't wait for the chance to "stop by". Cool video!
